State Parks
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wm. C. Sterling Sterling State Park is also located in Monroe County at 2800 State Park off of Dixie Highway in Frenchtown Township. The park is maintained by the State. For more information you may call 734-289-2715. Pointe Mouillee State Game Area and Park On the western shores of Lake Erie, Pointe Mouillee State Game Area is one of the most respected waterfowl locations in Michigan. Consisting of 4,040 acres it is one of the largest freshwater marsh restoration projects in the world. Along with exceptional waterfowl hunting, its numerous bird species and habitat diversity make it an important birding site in the Midwest. Bald Eagles, Black Billed Plovers, Glossy Ibises, Osprey and Whimbrels are unique species that inhabit Pointe Mouillee throughout the year. Along with many recreational opportunities that are present, Pointe Mouillee also has an annual waterfowl festival in September and is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017. Petersburg State Game Area Located on Teal and Lulu Rds. in Petersburg, the Petersburg State Game Area is 500 acres of managed game area representing one of the last Michigan sites of native wet-sand prairie habitat. The area is also open for walking and dog runs. |
